United Nations Doha Youth Forum

Engaging youth to pave the way for a safer, more peaceful world

Doha hosted the first-ever Youth Forum as part of the United Nations 13th Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The three-day Youth Forum was jointly organized by Qatar Foundation (QF), the Organising Committee of the United Nations 13th Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). With 120 student delegates of different nationalities and backgrounds taking part, the Doha Youth Forum presents a key opportunity for them to collaborate and develop creative solutions to global issues on crime.

The UN recognizes the importance of supporting and actively engaging youth to pave the way for a safer, more peaceful world. The role of youth was emphasized in the Doha Declaration, adopted in 2015 after the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. In particular, the Doha Declaration seeks to promote the rule of law with particular emphasis on children and youth, and stresses the fundamental role of youth participation in crime prevention efforts. In 2016, UNODC launched the Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration.

I led the marketing of the Youth Forum as part of a special task force assigned by Qatar Foundation and the Ministry of Interior Qatar. I took charge of the Youth Enrollment and Outreach efforts, starting with campaign planning, youth enrollment, orientation sessions, all the way to the crime congress..

Following the success of this initiative, I was invited by the Ministry of Justice in Japan to speak about the experience in preparation for the 14th edition which was held in Kyoto in 2021.
